At Carrington Dental Centre, we provide screenings during routine dental examinations to help detect early signs of oral cancer, so you can start treatment as soon as possible. 

Screenings for Early Detection

Oral cancer can affect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues, and although oral cancer is more likely in older adults, it can affect people of all ages. The main objective of oral cancer screening tests is to detect signs early for a better chance of a successful cure.

Our dentists screen patients for cancerous and precancerous signs during every routine dental examination.

Your dentist will use gloved hands to check your jaws, neck and face for any swelling, bumps or lumps.

If further diagnosis is required, your dentist will refer you to a doctor or specialist.

Signs of Oral Cancer

• Unexplained swelling, bumps or lumps
• A pimple, sore or ulcer that doesn’t heal for over three weeks
• Difficulty swallowing, chewing or moving your tongue
• Reddish or white patches on the inside of the cheeks or lips
• Ulcerations under the tongue, throat, floor of the mouth, and tonsils
